6 Tips to De-stress Your Psoriasis

6 Tips to De-stress Your Psoriasis

Stress can make our psoriasis do funny things. From flares to red patches, our skin can go through a whole range of symptoms simply because we are strained or anxious. When times are hard – and triggers abound – it’s important to continue your treatment routine and apply the MetaDerm Skin Health System as frequently as possible to promote more normal, healthy skin.

In addition to proper skin care treatment, we’ve provided six helpful tips to de-stress your mind, keep your psoriasis at bay, and promote healthy, flare-free skin.

  1.  Don’t be afraid to work up a sweat. Take an exercise class, spend an hour at the gym, or go on a walk. Exercise is a proven method to rid your body of toxins and clear your head of stressful thoughts (even for just a moment). Just get up and get moving!
  2. Talk to someone. – You don’t have to go through this alone. Approximately 8 million people in the United States alone have psoriasis. In fact, our founder, Mike Centola, has lived with an autoimmune inflammatory disease for more than 30 years. We know psoriasis is personal, but talking with someone you trust about your journey can help you feel better. You can also contact us by email or phone for additional support to make sure you get the help you and your skin deserve.
  3. Write it down. – If you don’t feel like talking, journaling is a great way to de-stress and track your symptoms. Start by writing how you are feeling or what is making you stressed. Psoriasis can feel like a rollercoaster, but putting pen to paper is a great way to process emotions, track triggers to manage your psoriasis symptoms, and improve your treatment plan.
  4. Eat healthy. – What you put inside your body matters. The diet you eat can have a big effect on your stress and psoriasis triggers. Try to avoid too much junk food and other unhealthy options when you’re feeling down or experiencing a flare.
  5. Create a safe space. – Whether you like essential oils or soothing music, find a place that you can turn into a stress-free oasis. Knowing there’s always a place you can go to get away from it all can help you get through those stressful times.
  6. Listen to others. – Sometimes, we get so wrapped up in our own heads, we make our problems bigger than they really are. A good way to keep a level head is to listen to others and what is going on in their lives. Often, we start to see that everyone has their fair share of things to deal with and we’re all dealing with them together.
